Why has one burner stopped working?

A single dead zone on an electric cooktop is usually the element itself or its connection, not the whole appliance. On induction, one dead zone points at the power module for that zone — and on multi-zone premium surfaces, one module can control more than one zone.

Likely causes

  • Radiant element failed or its terminal connection burned
  • Induction power module for that zone failed
  • Infinite switch or control failed on radiant models
  • Wiring connection loose under the glass
  • Cookware not induction-compatible — not a fault at all

What we do

We test the element or module rather than swapping parts by elimination. On induction we also confirm the cookware actually works on the other zones, because incompatible pans account for a share of these calls and cost nothing to resolve.

Radiant elements and switches are moderate parts. Induction power modules are the expensive end, particularly on premium surfaces.

What does my induction cooktop error code mean?

Induction error codes usually report overheating, a fan fault, or a power module problem. The first thing to check is ventilation: induction surfaces need airflow underneath, and a drawer packed tight against the unit will trigger heat errors that look like a hardware failure.

Likely causes

  • Cooling fan blocked or failed, so the electronics overheat
  • Power module fault for one or more zones
  • Insufficient clearance under the cooktop, restricting airflow
  • Sensor fault reporting a temperature that is not real
  • Supply voltage out of range

What we do

We read the fault memory, check the cooling path and measure supply before condemning a module. On Freedom Induction and similar full-surface designs, a single failed module can take out a large area — knowing which one saves you replacing more than you need.

What affects the cost

Fans and sensors are moderate. Power modules are the significant cost, and on a large induction surface there are several of them.

Can a cracked ceramic cooktop be repaired?

A cracked glass-ceramic surface has to be replaced, not repaired — a crack lets liquid reach the electronics beneath and the surface can fail further under heat. Stop using the affected zone until it is dealt with.

Likely causes

  • Impact from a dropped pan or utensil
  • Thermal shock from a cold liquid on a hot zone
  • Cookware with a rough or warped base
  • Stress crack from an over-tightened installation

We quote the replacement surface honestly, including the part cost — on premium models the glass is a substantial share of the appliance price, and you deserve that number before deciding. Where replacement does not make sense, we say so.

Glass is the single most expensive part on many cooktops. This is the fault where replacement most often beats repair, and we will tell you which side of the line you are on.

Why are my cooktop touch controls not responding?

Unresponsive touch controls are usually moisture or residue on the panel, or a failed control board underneath. Wipe the surface completely dry and cut power at the breaker for five minutes before assuming the worst — that clears a real share of these.

Likely causes

  • Moisture or spill residue bridging the touch sensors
  • Control lock engaged — not a fault
  • Touch control board failed
  • Ribbon connection between panel and board degraded
  • Overheating protection disabling the panel until it cools

What we do

We rule out the free fixes first, then test the panel and its connections. A ribbon connection reseated properly can bring a panel back that otherwise looked like a board replacement.

Cleaning and resets cost nothing. Touch control boards are a significant part on premium surfaces.

Cooktop Repair questions

Is induction harder to repair than radiant?

Different rather than harder. Radiant cooktops fail at elements and switches, which are moderate parts. Induction fails at power modules and control boards, which cost more but fail less often. Diagnosis on induction is more electronic and less mechanical.

Is replacing a cracked cooktop glass worth it?

On a premium built-in fitted into stone countertop, usually yes — replacing the whole unit means the countertop cutout has to match, which is rarely straightforward. On a mid-range cooktop the glass can approach the price of a new appliance, and we give you both numbers before you decide.

Do you repair gas cooktops?

We handle the electrical side — spark modules, igniters, switches and control boards. Gas line and burner work is a separate licensed trade, and we say so plainly instead of taking work we should not.

Why does my induction cooktop keep shutting off mid-cook?

Usually heat. Induction electronics live under the glass and need airflow; a tightly packed drawer beneath, or a blocked cooling fan, makes the unit protect itself by shutting down. It looks like a serious fault and is frequently a ventilation problem.
