Three mistakes we get called out to fix
Mounting the hood too high
Cooking vapour escapes sideways before the hood can capture it. The unit runs, sounds powerful, and does very little — and no repair ever fixes a mounting-height problem.
Reducing the duct diameter to fit an existing hole
Airflow drops sharply and the fan works against the restriction permanently. It is the difference between a hood that clears a kitchen and one that just makes noise.
Leaving a ducted hood set to recirculate
Many hoods ship configured for recirculation. Installed on a duct without changing that setting, the hood filters through charcoal and pushes air back into the room — venting nothing at all.

Ducted or recirculating — which will you install?
Whatever your kitchen allows. Ducted is always better where a route outside exists; recirculating is what most condos have to use. We configure the hood correctly for the mode it is actually running in, which is a step that gets missed surprisingly often.
Can you install an island hood?
Yes, provided there is proper ceiling support and a duct route. Island installations take longer because the unit hangs from the ceiling and has to be level in two directions — the rate stays a flat $250 plus HST.
How high should the hood sit above my cooktop?
Generally 65 to 75 cm above an electric cooktop, following your model’s specification. Lower captures better but risks heat damage; higher looks tidier and performs worse. We follow the manufacturer number rather than eyeballing it.
Will you test airflow before leaving?
Yes — fan on every speed, lights, and a check that air is actually leaving the duct outside on a ducted install. It is the only way to know the job worked.
