Why is there standing water in my dishwasher?
Water left in the bottom means the drain path is blocked or the pump has stopped moving it. On Bosch machines this shows as E24 or E25, and the filter assembly at the bottom of the tub is the first thing to check — it is designed to be removed by hand.
Likely causes
- Filter assembly clogged with food debris and grease
- Drain pump impeller jammed, commonly by a shard of glass or a fruit pit
- Drain hose kinked or missing its high-loop, so water siphons back
- Air gap at the sink blocked, where one is fitted
- Garbage disposal knockout plug never removed after installation
What we do
We clear the filter and sump, inspect the pump impeller for damage, and confirm the drain hose has a proper high-loop. That last one is the fault we find most often in new builds: the builder skipped it, and the machine has been draining badly since day one.
What affects the cost
Filter and hose work is the low end. A replacement drain pump is a modest part, and a damaged impeller is not worth cleaning — it will fail again.
