Does an ice maker repair need the service elevator booked?

Usually not. The assembly, the fan motors and the seals all come up in the passenger lift, and we work in the kitchen. Book the freight lift only if the appliance itself has to leave the suite, or if one is coming in — that is when management wants the elevator pad and our certificate of insurance. Tell us the building when you call and we sort out which it is beforehand.

The ice maker was repaired last year and it has frozen again. Why?

Because the ice room is only as good as the door closing on it. On a panel-ready fridge the factory hinge carries a custom cabinet front, and once it sags a few millimetres the top corner stops sealing. Humid suite air then gets in faster than the defrost cycle clears it, and the auger ices up within weeks. We check hinge and closure first, before rebuilding anything.

Can you take the custom panel off without damaging the millwork?

Yes, and it is most of what we do in the newer towers. The panel hangs on brackets fixed to the appliance door rather than the cabinet, so it comes away without touching the surrounding millwork. We photograph the alignment before removing anything, allow extra time in the booking for the refit, and re-level the door so the reveal matches the drawers beside it.
