What KitchenAid calls look like in Mississauga

Three faults account for almost every KitchenAid dishwasher call in Erin Mills and Streetsville, and only one of them is a real failure. The first is the filter. These machines wash quietly because they filter rather than grind, and the cylinder in the sump needs rinsing every month or two. Almost nobody was told that at handover, so we open a lot of two-year-old machines to find a filter that has never come out.

The second is the upper spray arm feed. On the third-rack models the water climbs a telescoping tube at the back of the tub, and when the rack is loaded past the rail stop that tube gets knocked out of line. Top rack comes out dirty, bottom rack is spotless, and the pump is working perfectly.

The third is rack hardware — adjuster clips and roller wheels that crack and let a corner drop. Cheap parts, short labour. Because the houses here are newer, we check the serial before quoting anything. If the machine is still inside the manufacturer's coverage we say so, and you keep the money.

KitchenAid repair in Mississauga — questions

How do I find out whether my dishwasher is still under warranty?

Read the serial off the tag inside the door frame and tell us when you book. The serial and build date usually settle it, and if the machine is still inside KitchenAid's own coverage we point you there instead of taking a service call. In Erin Mills and Streetsville that happens often enough to be worth two minutes on the phone before we make the 60-minute drive out.

How often does the filter actually need cleaning?

Every month or two in a household running it most days, more often if you scrape rather than rinse. It is a two-minute job — twist the cylinder out of the sump, rinse it under the tap, drop it back and lock it. A neglected filter is the most common reason a quiet KitchenAid starts leaving grit on glassware, and it costs nothing to rule out first.

Will you have to pull the machine out of the cabinet?

For rack and spray-arm work, no — all of that happens inside the tub with the door open. Drainage faults sometimes mean sliding the machine forward to reach the hose and check valve, and in these newer Mississauga kitchens the flooring usually runs up to the toe kick rather than under it. So the unit gets lifted rather than dragged, and hardboard goes down first.
