Speed Queen Appliance Repair in Toronto & the GTA
A fifteen-year-old Speed Queen is usually worth fixing, which is not something we say about many machines. Metal frames, a real transmission in the top loaders, and parts still in production — we repair the TC5 and TR top loaders, FF7 front loaders and DR electric dryers in Toronto homes. Service call $120 plus HST, 60-day parts and labour warranty.
Speed Queen appliances we service
- Top-load washers
- Front-load washers
- Electric dryers
- Stacked laundry pairs
Common Speed Queen problems
Speed Queen builds home machines to commercial tolerances, so repairs pay off at ages where other brands are scrap. Residential units only — we do not take coin-op.
- 01
Mechanical timer sticking on the classic top loaders, the cycle stalling mid-wash
- 02
Air dome hose sludged, the pressure switch letting the tub overfill
- 03
Dryer squealing from the start as the idler pulley and rollers flatten
- 04
Drive belt glazed and slipping, the basket barely turning under a heavy load
Speed Queen model lines we know
These are the series we work on regularly — parts channels, service procedures and the quirks that come with each generation.
- TC5 classic top load
- TR3, TR5 and TR7 top load
- FF7 front load
- DR3, DR5 and DR7 electric dryers
- AWN legacy top loaders
- SF7 stacked pairs with electric dryer
Why OEM parts matter on Speed Queen
Alliance parts fit the way the factory intended, which matters on a machine expected to run for decades. Aftermarket belts stretch within months, and a generic water level switch trips at the wrong point, so a washer that was fine on deep fill starts putting water on the floor.
- Factory parts on anything touching the control or sealed system
- We tell you when an aftermarket part is genuinely fine and cheaper
- Part numbers go on your invoice, so the next technician is not guessing
— Pricing
Simple, honest pricing
- Service call & diagnostic$120 + HST
- Written quote on-siteBefore any work
- Senior discount$50 off
What affects the repair price
- The part itself — a door switch and a sealed-system component are different worlds.
- Age and brand — luxury built-ins need factory-spec parts, and those cost more.
- Access — a stacked unit in a condo closet takes longer to reach than a free-standing machine.
Speed Queen repair questions
Is a twenty-year-old Speed Queen washer worth repairing?
Almost always, and we say that about very few machines. The frame, tub and transmission on these are built for a service life measured in decades, parts are still manufactured, and the common failures are all replaceable: belts, lid switches, water valves, pumps and timers. Compare that with the cost of a comparable new machine and the repair usually wins by a wide margin.
Why does my Speed Queen fill higher than my old washer, and when is that a fault?
Deep fill is normal on the top loaders — the machine washes with water rather than with sensors and a trickle. It becomes a fault when the level keeps climbing past the top of the load or the tub overflows. That is usually the pressure switch or the small air dome hose feeding it, which fills with detergent sludge and stops reporting the true level.
Do you service coin-operated Speed Queen machines or gas dryers?
No to both. Speed Queen is everywhere in apartment and condo laundry rooms, but that is commercial work and we are a residential service. On dryers we work on electric models only — gas appliances need a separate licence that we do not hold, and we would rather say that on the phone than at your door.
Is the classic TC5 different to service from the newer TR models?
Quite different under the lid. The TC5 keeps the classic platform and a mechanical timer, so faults are traced with a meter and a wiring diagram. The TR machines use a redesigned tub, suspension and wash action; TR3 and TR5 still run mechanical controls, while the TR7 adds an electronic board and display. Same brand, different platforms, and most parts do not cross between them.
