  • Age and brand — luxury built-ins need factory-spec parts, and those cost more.
  • Access — a stacked unit in a condo closet takes longer to reach than a free-standing machine.

Maytag repair questions

My Maytag top-loader agitates but will not spin. What is it?

On these top-loaders it is almost always the shift actuator, the small geared unit under the tub that couples the drive to the basket for spin. Its teeth strip, the machine still agitates, and the load comes out soaked. The actuator is a cheap part and the labour is short. A failed lid lock produces the same picture, so we confirm which one before ordering.

Does AquaLift self-clean actually work?

Not the way a high-heat self-clean does, no. AquaLift runs at a low temperature with water in the base of the oven and lifts light soil, which is useful after a spill and useless against carbonised grease. Owners of the electric ranges we service call it a fault. It is not one, and we would rather say so on the phone than book a visit for it.

My Maytag dryer keeps blowing its thermal fuse. Why does it keep happening?

Because the fuse is doing its job. It blows when the drum runs too hot, and the drum runs too hot when the exhaust cannot get out — a crushed flexible duct behind the machine, a lint-packed run through the joists, or a hooded vent that no longer opens. Replacing the fuse without clearing the vent buys you a few loads. We work on the electric dryers and check the whole run.

My Maytag Bravos bangs and walks across the floor on spin. What causes that?

Worn suspension rods. There are four of them inside the cabinet holding the tub, and once the damping inside them wears out the tub swings freely and hammers the case on every spin. They are replaced as a set of four, never singly, and we check the tub for cracks around the mounting points while the top is off.
